Alabama sports can boast more than one No. 1 team. The Crimson Tide has two top teams other than football; Women’s Golf and Men’s Golf.

Alabama sports can boast about many national championships. A total of 26 team National Championships have been won by Alabama sports teams. Five Alabama team sports have won National Championships: Football; Gymnastics; Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf and Softball.

Very much like Alabama football, the Gymnastics, Women’s Golf and Men’s Golf teams are a threat to win a national championship every year. Alabama Softball, Gymnastics and the two Crimson Tide golf teams have won seven national championships since 2002.

The 2017-2018 golf season could bring Alabama sports two more national championships.

Alabama Women’s Golf ranked No. 1

The Crimson Tide women are blistering tournament courses this fall. The team won the Schooner Fall Classic at 21-under par. They also came in second place at the Mason Rudolf Championship and the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Those three tournament finishes earned the team a current No. 1 ranking.

The closest competitors to the Tide women nationally are UCLA (2), Arkansas (3), Arizona State (4) and Duke (5). Those five teams are the only women’s golf teams in D1 with adjusted scoring averages under 71 strokes-per-round.

The Tide women are led by junior Lauren Stephenson who is ranked No. 1 individually. Tide teammate, sophomore Kristen Gillman is ranked No. 3.

The next tournament for the wone’s team is The Landfall Tradition, October 27-29 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Alabama Men’s Golf Ranked No. 1

The Alabama men’s golf team are also ranked No. 1, based upon GolfStat.com rankings. The men have won two fall tournaments, the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate and the Carpet City Classic. The Tide finished second at the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational.

The Tide men are led by junior Davis Riley. Riley is tied at No. 3 in D1 individual rankings. Riley was named the “September AmateurGolf.com Amateur of the Month.”

As always in men’s golf, the SEC has a strong field of teams. Following the Tide in the top ten of the national rankings are Texas A&M (2), Auburn (6), Kentucky (8), Vanderbilt (9) and Florida (10). Three more SEC men’s teams are ranked in the top 25, LSU (12), Arkansas (17) and Tennessee (25).

Next up for the Crimson Tide men is the Steelwood Collegiate in Loxley, Alabama.

After a winter break of three months, both teams will return to the tournament trail in March. The SEC tournaments and the NCAA Nationals are in May.

Another win for JT on PGA Tour

In the wee hours of the morning stateside, Justin Thomas won again on the PGA Tour. Thomas won the CG Tournament at the Nine Bridges course in South Korea. It was Justin’s seventh PGA Tour victory.

Check out the 243 yard shot below from the second playoff hole. Thomas’ birdie on the hole gave him the win.

Justin is not just a big hitter. In an earlier tournament round, he faced a green roughed up by spike marks, directly on a putt-line to a hole. Take a look at how he handled that difficulty.

The former University of Alabama men’s golf national champion is tearing up the PGA Tour. Thomas is currently ranked No. 3 in the world.
