Alabama football will play Clemson in the last bowl game of the 2017 Season before the CFP Championship Game. We’ve put together reasons for every Alabama fan to watch the other 39 bowl games.
There are way too many bowl games. You won’t get any argument about it from us. The counterargument to that is we get more college football before the dreary 8-month period of…well, no college football. It’s a celebration of what these teams have all accomplished this season.
We’ve run down the 2017 bowl schedule and are giving you, the Alabama football fan, a reason to watch each one.
Celebration Bowl-North Carolina A&T vs. Grambling
Alabama football fans will notice a familiar sight…Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Yes, the College Football postseason will end in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Alabama football fans should be hoping that, by the time Jan 8th rolls around, the Crimson Tide are in that building.
As far as the two teams…they are the champions of the MEAC and SWAC. This is a virtual championship game for these teams.
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl-Troy vs. North Texas
Troy, a team from the state of Alabama, defeated LSU earlier this year during the team’s Homecoming game and drew up this golden tweet:
As long as it’s not Auburn, we must pull for the team from our state. #RTW (That’s Rebuild The Wall for those who haven’t been paying attention.)
AutoNation Cure Bowl-Western Kentucky vs. Georgia State
There isn’t a good reason to watch this as an Alabama football fan. If you are a human being (which is most of you) you will be heart warmed to know that this bowl is the first to tie the game directly into a worthy cause: finding the cure for cancer. If you can’t get behind this, you need to close out of this article right now and find your humanity.
Las Vegas Bowl-Boise State vs. Oregon
It seems like absolute decades since Oregon “wanted Bama” so badly that they developed a whole campaign with green shirts and chanting that sparked a revolution. Now, the Ducks are 7-5 and playing in an opening-weekend bowl matchup in Las Vegas.
Do they really want Bama now?
Gildan New Mexico Bowl-Marshall vs. Colorado State
CSU played Alabama earlier this season and walked out of Bryant-Denny Stadium with a 41-23 score, scoring the third-most points behind Mississippi State and Auburn against Alabama’s defense. That is certainly impressive. They are favored in this matchup against a struggling Thundering Herd team.
Raycom Media Camellia Bowl-Arkansas State vs. Middle Tennessee
A weird game in a weird area (Montgomery, AL) with two weird teams. Honestly, this game has seen a good bit of weirdness since it’s inception. The first season saw a head coach get bloodied up on the sidelines and he kept coaching. So, just for the weirdness, it might be watchable for Alabama fans to see two teams play in the Cramton Bowl.
