Alabama Football: Latest news on 2018 QB prospects with new name added
By Ronald Evans
The latest news on Alabama football top 2018 quarterback prospects, less than two weeks from National Signing Day. A new name has been added to the Tide’s QB recruit list.
Alabama football has a numbers crunch in the 2018 Signing Class. The class is limited by three carryovers from 2017. Only Nick Saban knows how the final numbers will work. Various recruiting experts predict the Tide will sign between eight and ten additional players for 2018.
Nick Saban wants to sign a quarterback in every signing class. The Alabama football staff chased some big name QB recruits earlier in the 2018 recruiting cycle. Emory Jones chose Florida, Justin Fields picked Georgia. The Tide moved on from Matt Corral who later picked Ole Miss. Jarren Williams, who may or may not have had a committable Tide offer, chose Miami. Tanner McKee was another top Tide option but he is taking a mission for two years after high school.
Let’s review the remaining top prospects. All player rankings in this post are from the 247Sports Composite.

2018 Quarterback Top Prospects
- James Foster – Other than Tanner McKee mentioned above, Foster is the highest rated, uncommitted 2018 QB prospect. He is a 4-Star and the No. 11 ranked dual-threat QB in the nation. Some insiders believe Foster would have committed to the Tide long ago but was put on hold by the Alabama football coaching staff. Currently, he lists Alabama, LSU and FSU as his favorites. He visited Tuscaloosa on January 19th. He is scheduled to visit Texas A&M on the 26th and FSU on February 2nd.
- Brevin White – White is a new and surprise name on the Tide’s list. The Californian is committed to Princeton. He is a 4-Star, No. 12 ranked, pro-style QB prospect in the 2018 class. He has 14 offers from FBS schools, including Tennessee and Auburn. Flipping him from Princeton may be hard for any FBS school, but he does have NFL dreams. He will visit Tuscaloosa on January 26th. White could still become an early enrollee who has the opportunity to start classes on January 29th.
- Brock Purdy – Purdy is a 3-Star, No. 36 ranked pro-style QB in the nation. Purdy is also considering Iowa State and UCF. He has a dozen offers. Purdy is reported to be willing to redshirt. Could that mean he would accept a grayshirt option? He is visiting Tuscaloosa on January 26th.
- Jamarye Joiner – Joiner is a 3-Star, No. 18 ranked dual-threat QB in the nation. The Arizona commit has been considering other schools and may visit Tuscaloosa on February 2nd.
Alabama wants to close with a QB. Just a quess, but the situation appears to be one that will be settled before NSD2.
