Alabama Softball won two more games Saturday over Boston College and Fordham. However, it was senior Alexis Osorio who stole the spotlight by tying the NCAA record for 21 strikeouts in 7 innings.

In game one, Alabama softball beat the Golden Eagles 6-3. Freshman Madison Preston (5-1) got the complete game victory with three strikeouts. Kaylee Tow got three hits on four appearances to lead the Alabama offense. For Boston College, Jessica Dreswick (6-5) earned the loss for the Golden Eagles.

In game two, Alabama defeated Fordham 7-2. It was Alexis Osorio (5-3) who stole the show, as she pitched a complete game with an earth-shattering 21 strikeouts. She became only the second player in NCAA history to record that amount of strikeouts. For Fordham, Madie Aughinbaugh (0-5) got the loss.

Head Coach Patrick Murphy had this to say after the game:

"“It’s not often that you get to be part of history…Today was awesome. She’s been great for four years…Fordham is a good hitting team. To do that against them after giving up the home run was even more impressive.”"

Osorio’s performance put her in the NCAA record books and helped cement her Alabama legacy. Check out some highlights.

Osorio’s Lex-gacy

It hasn’t been the best season for Osorio. At least, by her standard. Yet, that doesn’t seem to change anything.

The Senior has not lost a beat at all. Sure, her 5-3 record seems below average for a player of that caliber. However, we can chalk that up to one of the toughest schedules of the country. Even Osorio can’t be perfect with the caliber of schedule Alabama has played so far.

Her 21-strikeout game further proved that she is one of the best, if not the best, pitcher in the country. We thought we had seen peak Osorio in the opening game last year, where she recorded an amazing 19 strikeouts in a perfect game effort. She now holds five of the seven best single-game strikeout records in Alabama history. How’s that for a legacy?

Now that she has broken this record, the question becomes if she is the best pitcher in Alabama softball history. That title has been reserved for Jackie Traina, who a lot of Alabama softball fans hold in high regard. However, if Alabama manages to go deep in the postseason, there may be some competition for that top spot.
