Competing to recruit elite players never slows for Alabama football. Check out our ‘9 Months Out’ list of fifteen players likely to be in the ’19 class.

The NCAA early Signing period has changed college football. After one look last December, Alabama football has changed its recruiting calendar to lock down more players earlier than last season. Camps for high school players will now conclude in June. Prior to the start of fall practice, the Tide will focus on official and unofficial player visits in July. Locking players in early will be the goal.

Nick Saban has rebuilt the staff with a younger and probably hungrier group of assistant coach/recruiters. Nick is quick to acknowledge recruiting is the second-most competitive endeavor for the Alabama football program. We all know Nick hates to lose. The new plan is designed to win more recruiting battles.

Alabama football signed 13 players last December. Look for that number to be 15-20 in the next Early Signing Period. Even though December feels a long way off, it is not too early to start filtering over 200 offers down to probable ’19 class signees.

Fifteen players for the 2019 Signing Class

In a broad stroke estimate of most probable and working through the list, we begin with the four current Crimson Tide commits. All player ratings are from the 247 Sports Composite.

  1. Pierce Quick – OT – 5-Star, No. 4 Offensive tackle and No. 25 player overall in the nation
  2. King Mwikuta – OLB – 4-Star, No. 4 OLB and No. 78 overall in the nation
  3. Brendan Gant – S – 4-Star, No. 5 Safety and the No. 130 overall player in the nation
  4. Brandon Turnage – ATH- 4-Star, No. 10 Athlete and No. 114 overall player in the nation
  5. Taulia Tagovailoa – QB – 4-Star, No. 6 Pro-style QB
  6. Clay Webb – OL – 5-Star, No. 1 Center and No. 11 player overall
  7. Paul Tyson – QB – 4-Star, No. 7 Pro-style QB
  8. Jaylen McCollough – S – 4-Star, No. 4 Safety and No. 75 overall
  9. Christian Williams – CB – 4-Star, No. 8 Cornerback and No. 88 overall
  10. Will Reichard – K – 3-Star and No. 1 rated Kicker in the nation.
  11. Lakia Henry – ILB – JUCO
  12. Christian Harris – ATH – 4-Star. He is being recruited as an Inside linebacker
  13. D.J. Dale – DT – 3-Star, No. 24 DT
  14. Trey Sanders – RB – 5-Star, No. 1 RB and No. 6 overall
  15. Amari Kight – 4-Star OT or Darnell Wright – 5-Star OT

Sanders de-committed in January and two days later the Tide was still his leader. Most recently, recruiting insiders suggest Miami leads. This could well be a battle until February with Ohio State and FSU (and about 10 others) also battling with the Tide.

We could have listed another 15 names but that rather defeats the purpose of filtering the list down. Much will change in the ebb and flow of the recruiting cycle.

Alabama football is still working on the 2018 class. JUCO defensive tackle Tevita Musika has an offer and is expected to visit Tuscaloosa this month.
