Alabama Football: Five reasons Alabama wins the ’18 CFB Playoff
By Ronald Moody
Alabama football will face plenty of opposition in its quest to repeat as national champions. Listed below are five reasons the Tide will win the College Football Playoff Championship.
Outside the Crimson Nation, every sports fan roots against Alabama football. The hated Crimson Tide rivals Duke men’s basketball, University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball and the New York Yankees as sport’s most hated team.
Unfortunately, as long as Alabama football coach Nick Saban remains on the sidelines, the Tide will be contenders for the title every year. The 66-year-old has made six National Championship game appearances at Alabama with his only loss at the hands of Clemson.
Coaches Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher, and Dabo Swinney are the only remaining active coaches that have won a national championship in the past ten years.
The Challengers
First, Clemson’s defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, defensive ends Austin Bryant, and Clelin Ferrell decided to return instead of departing for the NFL draft. The return of these three players ensures the Tigers will remain the most formidable foe for Alabama next season. Senior quarterback Kelly Bryant returns and so does running back Travis Etienne and Tavien Feaster. The defense led by highly acclaimed defensive coordinator Brent Venables loses only linebacker Dorian O’Daniel and cornerback Ryan Carter. Their toughest games are against Florida State and Texas A&M.
Georgia, Ohio State, University of Miami and Oklahoma are national powers that will threaten the Tide’s quest to repeat.
