Alabama football has a large number of top prospects attending A-Day. Check out the list and who may commit this weekend.

The A-Day game is about more than a glorified scrimmage. Fans get a glimpse of what to expect from the 2018 team. A good and a bad meal is on the line for the players and coaches. The weekend is also big for Alabama football in terms of recruiting.

After this weekend, the next time any large number of prospects will be in Tuscaloosa will be June camps. In the second year of the NCAA Early Signing Period, Nick Saban wants to lock-in players early. The Tide currently sits with eight 2019 commits and room for 26 or 27 in the class.

Some of the top prospects will be in no hurry to make an announcement. Others, however, may choose to jump on board with the Crimson Tide this weekend.

Four prospects who may commit

  • Clay Webb – 5-Star, No. 1 rated Center and No. 11 player Overall in the nation. Webb is considered a Tide lock who has little reason to not move forward with a commitment.
  • Amari Kight – 4-Star, No. 13 rated Offensive Tackle in the ’19 class. Kight is a teammate of Taulia Tagovailoa at Thompson High School.
  • Taulia Tagovailoa – 4-Star, No. 6 rated Pro-Style QB. Taulia is expected to announce before the start of his senior, high school season. It could easily be this weekend.
  • Jerrion Ealy – 4-Star, No. 4 rated Running Back. Ealy committed to Ole Miss in December but the Tide has a good chance to flip him.

A couple more 5-Stars

Neither one of this pair is expected to announce soon but they are top Alabama football targets.

  • Ishmael Sopsher – 5-Star, No. 1 rated Defensive Tackle and No. 4 rated player Overall in the nation. Alabama football insiders believe the Tide is in great shape to pull Sopsher out of Louisana. If or when that happens, it will be a blow to Coach O’s job security.
  • Darnell Wright – 5-Star, No. 3 rated Offensive Tackle and No. 20 Overall player in the nation.

Other weekend visitors

The visitor list is long. Here are a few more that are also top Tide priorities.

  • Jaylen McCollough – 4-Star, No. 4 rated safety and No. 89 rated player Overall in the nation.
  • Daxton Hill – 4-Star, No. 2 rated Safety and the No. 27 rated player Overall in the nation.
  • John Emery – 4-Star, No. 6 rated Running Back and No. 76 rated player Overall in the nation.
  • D.J. Dale – 3-Star, No. 27 rated Defensive Tackle. (remember stars do not matter to Tide coaches)

Three more interesting possibilities for the ’18, ’19 and ’20 classes

  • Jay Hayes – Defensive tackle and graduate transfer from Notre Dame. Hayes was a 4-Star recruit and played three seasons for the Irish. He was a starter last season and contributed 27 tackles. He recently committed to Oklahoma but his visit indicates he could join the Tide’s 2018 team.
  • Siaki Ika – 4-Star, No. 11 rated Defensive Tackle. There is some question whether Ika has a committable offer. Insiders suggest he was told to lose some weight before he could commit.
  • Jayson Jones – 4-Star, 2020 recruit. The No. 2 rated 2020 Defensive Tackle is scheduled to announce his college choice in July but it could happen this weekend.

Next: Most important Saban recruit was Julio Jones

Six of the Tide’s eight 2019 commits will also attend the A-Day festivities. Pierce Quick and Paul Tyson will be pushing hard for new commits.
