After a 5-3 loss Friday and a walk-off 4-3 loss Saturday, Alabama Softball had their backs against the wall.

It was a quick start and a defensive effort in the seventh inning that sealed a needed win for Alabama softball on Sunday. While a series win would have been ideal, Alabama will take the wins when they can roll their way.

Alabama jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first, led by Bailey Hemphill’s three-run home run. After going to the seventh leading 7-1, Georgia stormed back and plated three runs to make it 7-4. It took the effort of all three pitchers, but Alabama managed to stop the bleeding to secure the win and the save for the Crimson Tide.

It has been a rough SEC season for Alabama, but a win over a top-10 team in Georgia is certainly a victory that can be praised.

A Win is a Win

There isn’t any question that this Alabama team is talented enough. Things just haven’t panned out as well this season as was hoped.

It’s never a good argument to argue that luck has been the reason for a rough season. Every team could have done something different to improve their season with just a few adjustments here and there. It was unrealistic to think this Alabama softball team was set to be the best team in America. Rosters are stacked, top to bottom, across the nation and namely in the SEC.

Yet, it feels a few plays going another way, and we’d be talking about a different season. That the case last year as well. The running joke in 2017 was if the foul line was just a bit more outside, there would have been many more hits that season.

Alabama has yet to be swept in an SEC series this season. Of course, pitching matchups and batting order strategy determine almost everything. No doubt, Alabama softball definitely has the talent to stick with the big dogs in the nation. It’s a struggle every weekend for Alabama to stay competitive but they manage to squeeze out wins.

As we approach the postseason, this team has big explosive potential. If the cards are laid down right, they have the grit and talent for a heavy run in the SEC or the WCWS tournament. It would be no surprise if the Tide gunned for the Championship game in the conference tournament.
