The Alabama football offseason allows fans time to keep up with all kinds of Crimson Tide news and tidbits from football and other sports.

Even though it is the slowest part of the Alabama football offseason, there is still news. In addition, it is a good time to catch up on what is happening with some other Crimson Tide sports.

The two most important events of the week are accomplishments broader and in many ways more important than football. More than 100 University of Alabama student-athletes are graduating this week. Several of those graduating began their degree efforts many years ago.

With Alabama football careers dating back to the early 1990’s Siran Stacy and Sherman Williams are graduating this weekend. Joining them will be some other big names: Derrick Henry, Amari Cooper and Ha Ha Clinton Dix.

More recent football players also celebrating their degrees will be Brad Bozeman, Shaun Dion Hamilton, as well as current players, Jamey Mosley, Johnny Dwight, Hale Hentges, Keaton Anderson, Dallas Warmack and Richie Petitbon. Warmack recently announced he will leave the Alabama football program as a graduate transfer.

Another significant milestone was reached this week with the dedication of the 17th Habitat for Humanity House built and furnished by the Nick’s Kids Foundation. Terry Saban summed up the effort perfectly.

"This project is a true testament of the limitless possibilities when our volunteers and Nick’s Kids’ members commit to make a difference in the lives of others"

Other football news

Five former Alabama football players who were undrafted last week signed free agent contracts. Tomy Brown signed with the Los Angeles Chargers, Robert Foster and Levi Wallace with the Buffalo Bills, Cam Sims with the Washington Redskins and JC Hassenauer with the Atlanta Falcons.

Tide golf teams move on to NCAA Regionals

After a heart-breaking loss in the SEC championship (due to a 20-foot putt by Auburn on the last hole, no less) the Alabama men’s golf team will travel west to the Pacific Regional as the No. 2 seed. The top five teams out of 13 in each regional will advance to nationals in late May in Stillwater, OK.

The Alabama women’s golf team is the No. 1 seed at the Tallahassee NCAA Regional. The top six teams in each regional will advance to Stillwater for the NCAA Women’s nationals, prior to the men’s nationals.

There is a lot of golf to be played but both teams must be considered strong contenders for a national championship.
