NFL Training camps open this week as rookies report. Once every team adds its veterans, there will be 61 former Alabama football players competing for a 2018 NFL roster.
Whatever the final number, Alabama football will again be well represented on NFL rosters in the 2018-19 season. Rookies began reporting this week. The veterans will soon follow. It will be several weeks before NFL rosters are trimmed to 53 players. In the process, some players will be cut. A few more may be added to training camp rosters.
The current list of former Alabama football players, by NFL team, is provided below. Let’s review a few of the former Crimson Tiders who can impress but whose roster status is fluid.
There is no doubt A.J. McCarron will make the Buffalo Bills final roster. Alabama football fans hope he will be the starter. A.J. will have to hold back Josh Allen, chosen by the Bills with the seventh pick of the 2018 Draft. Two more intriguing stories in Buffalo are if Robert Foster and Levi Wallace can make the team.
Baltimore has been a friendly place for former Alabama football players with Ozzie Newsome as GM. Rookies Anthony Averett and Brad Bozeman will be hoping the trend continues.
The newest most friendly place for former Alabama football players is Washington. The big questions with the Redskins are whether Shaun Dion Hamilton and Cam Sims can earn a final roster slot.
Early in the process, the other former Tiders expected to be on a bubble are Josh Frazier, J.C. Hassenauer, Brandon Greene, Gehrig Dieter and Cyrus Jones.
