College football is just a few weeks away. The end of the talking season is a good time to review preseason predictions and the five most overrated teams.

Like much in the college football offseason, preseason polls can be filled with folly. Since their value is primarily entertainment, let’s join in the fun. Looking at rankings done by the top recognized experts, there is little disagreement over the top five teams. After that, consensus fades.

To be fair, preseason rankings have a high margin for error because picking a top 25 (or more) before any games are played involves a lot of guessing. In our list of the most overrated teams, we will cite some rankings of the teams. We will not go so far as to identify the exact sources of the rankings. This exercise is not about bashing media members. Of course, we are always ready to bash unworthy teams.

In case Alabama football fans are wondering about No. 1 team consensus, the Crimson Tide is picked either No. 1 or No. 2 in each ranking. The same goes for Clemson.

Most Overrated FBS teams for 2018 – Honorable Mention

UCF

Adding UCF as an honorable mention is a no-brainer. The Golden Knights still have McKenzie Milton and he is legit. The roster has some talent though most of it is on the offensive side of the ball. Last season UCF was given far too much credit for beating Auburn. The Tigers had zero interest in a bowl game after losing the SEC Championship game and missing out on the CFB Playoff.

The emotional leaders for UCF last season were head coach Scott Frost and defensive star, Shaquem Griffin. Both are gone. There will be a coaching drop-off even if Josh Heupel does a good job. UCF will surrender a ton of points from a weakened defense.

UCF is ranked as high as No. 16. We say the Golden Knights are not a top 25 team.
