Check out what happened as Alabama football reached the halfway point of fall camp. Plus, some other Crimson Tide tidbits.
Alabama football completed the first half of fall camp Tuesday. On a hot Tuscaloosa afternoon, the Crimson Tide worked in full pads. Except for Ale Kaho who had to complete his last day of not being in full pads.
All the Najee Harris rumors from Saturday and Monday were confirmed or disputed on Tuesday. Najee is hurt. He was spotted getting around with a leg on a scooter. The exact lower leg injury was not confirmed. It might be an ankle sprain or some other problem with a foot. It is not known if he can be ready for Louisville.
If Twitter is your first source of Alabama football information, you might have seen speculation Najee’s absence from practice Monday was related to a possible transfer. Those tweets were nothing more than wild conjecture.
The latest news on the offensive line includes another session of Alex Leatherwood at right guard and Jedrick Wills at right tackle. Two straight days is a trend but it could still be short-term cross-training. There are continued indications Deonte Brown is in the mix for a guard slot. Some insiders say Brown has lost even more weight than the 344 pounds shown on the Alabama football roster. From a once massive 385 pounds (or more), Brown might now be near 330 pounds.
Even when he struggled from being way overweight, Brown was reported to be one of the strongest players on the team. On Tuesday he was seen in reps at left guard, next to Ross Piersbacher. Chris Owens appears to lead for the backup role at center should Piersbacher go down.
Other than the Najee Harris news, there was nothing new on other injuries to Stephon Wynn, Jamey Mosley and Daniel Wright.
Two Interesting Tidbits
Former Alabama football player, and now businessman and radio personality, Wes Neighbors was at the Saturday scrimmage. Neighbors made a comment on his Huntsville radio show that what he saw Saturday was the most talent he had ever seen on a football field. Wes has seen a lot of Alabama football teams and that is one bold assessment.
Also of note, Texas A&M and now Tide assistant Jeff Banks parted ways last January. The Aggies are considering suing Banks for breach of contract. The issue appears to be the money either paid or to be paid by TAMU to Banks after he became employed by Alabama.
Alabama football returns to the practice field Wednesday night. Select players will be available for media questions earlier in the day.
