Alabama Football: Fall camp session No. 11 with good injury news
By Ronald Evans
Alabama football finished session No. 11 of fall camp Wednesday night. The team worked in full pads and two injured players returned to action.
Alabama football worked under the lights again on Wednesday. It was another fall camp session in full pads. There are two more practice sessions this week before the second and last scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday. New freshman inside linebacker, Ale Kaho did not work in full pads.
Alabama football fans can be relieved about the injury situation. Both the guys with injured shoulders, Jamey Mosley and Daniel Wright were back at work. Neither player wore a black no-contact jersey in the media viewing period. It had been feared Wright was out indefinitely with a serious injury. Getting the sophomore back quickly is a boost to the new secondary.
It was reported that Najee Harris and Stephon Wynn were working out in the indoor training center. There is some expectation Harris may return for the Louisville game. Wynn will be out longer. In some earlier sessions, there was concern Damien Harris and Brian Robinson were not at full speed. Like Josh Jacobs, Damien and Robinson are at worst dinged up, but nothing serious.
Offensive line experiments or changes?
After this weekend, experiments in the position groups will give way to building a settled two-deep. On Wednesday, for the third straight practice, Alex Leatherwood took part in drills at right guard. Jedrick Wills was working next to him at right tackle.
There was no new information about left guard on Wednesday. Rumors persist that a much slimmed down Deonte Brown is pushing Lester Cotton at left guard.
Secondary looking settled
In the secondary, the Crimson Tide nickel unit is beginning to look settled. Trevon Diggs and Saivion Smith are at the corners, Shyheim Carter at star, with Deionte Thompson and Xavier McKinney at the safeties. There is still time for another player to crack the nickel first-team group if that ‘other’ player excels in Saturday’s scrimmage. It could be that after Saturday, the only first-team battle in the secondary is at the dime, money position.
There was no new practice news about the quarterbacks on Wednesday. The outside chatter is so deafening, it is almost as though no other players are competing for a starting role.
Earlier in the day, Trevon Diggs made it clear, he and his teammates were focused on fall camp and not any chirping from Louisville players.
The Alabama football team will practice again Thursday afternoon. After the practice, Nick Saban will conduct a media review.
