Alabama football continued to wrap up fall camp and move into Louisville prep on Friday. Good Najee news was balanced by an absent defensive player.

Alabama football fans, let’s jump right to the absent player. On Friday, for the second day, defensive lineman, Johnny Dwight was not seen during the media viewing periods. As of late Friday night, there has been no information on Dwight’s absence. Given the very short bench for the 2018 defensive line, Alabama football fans are justifiably concerned.

When we say there is no information, we mean no rumors, no tweets, no insider message board material – nothing. Dwight is a redshirt senior who has shown in fall camp he was finally capable of contributing in the rotation. Saying anything more is worthless conjecture. Bama Hammer will keep seeking solid information.

Back to full pads

It was a hot August afternoon in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide was back in full pads after a short respite from the gear required for hard hitting.

Other news on Friday was the continuing improvement of Najee Harris. In drills, he appeared to be healthy enough to at least be a ‘probable’ for the Louisville game. Nick Saban said Thursday night Harris is day-to-day. Raekwon Davis was talking to a trainer and left the field at one point but returned later.

There was nothing significant with the offensive line. The first unit has not changed in a week. Backup left tackle Scott Lashley is still hampered by an unreported but believed to be slight injury.

There was nothing new with the first unit secondary either. As we have discussed before, expect Trevon Diggs, Saivion Smith, Deionte Thompson, Shyheim Carter and Xavier McKinney to be in every nickel and dime formation. Who joins them at money in the dime defense is still being determined. It has been rumored Diggs is battling an ankle injury.

Nick Saban made two former walk-ons happy this week. He awarded scholarships to long snapper, Scott Meyer and defensive back, D.J. Lewis. Meyer saw game action last season.

The best line in any written report on the Friday practice came from Rainer Sabin at al.com.

"Analyst Butch Jones, the former Tennessee coach, was spotted observing the quarterbacks from afar."

Next. For Najee Harris, football greatness, his least challenge. dark

Alabama football will practice again Saturday afternoon. After a Sunday break, the Crimson Tide will hit the practice field Monday for the first game week on the 2018 season.
