Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech in Houston

This game has “blow out the scoreboard” all over it. The potential of Kliff Kingsbury and Phil Longo offenses getting together on the same field makes you scared for each of the defenses that have to go up against them. Both coaches are ‘Air Raid’ acolytes that really do not care how many points are scored by an opponent, as long as their team scores more.

Even with the loss of former QB Shea Patterson to Michigan, this Rebel offense seems even more dangerous than it did in 2017 and that’s due to the emergence of Jordan Ta’amu at the quarterback position.

It helps to have your biggest game against your biggest opponent as he did in last year’s Egg Bowl, throwing for 247 yards and 2 TDs in a victory over Mississippi State. The lesser-known Ta’amu is better than Patterson in passing accuracy. He has a strong arm and while not as elusive as Patterson, Jordan can hurt opponents with his feet.

And what a collection of weapons with which to work, as well. AJ Brown is not only the best returning wideout in the SEC, but probably the conference. Tack on DK Metcalf and DaMarkus Lodge and you have yourself a chance to really put the fear of God unto a few teams.

The first of those teams will be the Red Raiders who despite churning out dizzying offenses year after year can’t seem to scrounge up a decent defense to save their lives. And with a couple of playmakers on the Rebel defense such as Benito Jones and Zedrick Woods, the Rebs should be able to halt the Texas Tech onslaught enough to win in Houston this Saturday.
