Alabama football had a busy Monday with a Saban presser and the start of Hogs prep. Check out POTW awards, an injury update and practice notes.

Monday was the Alabama football start of Arkansas week. Nick Saban kicked off with a media session, followed by player interviews and a normal Monday practice of light work in shorts.

Also on Monday, the Alabama football staff announced its Player of the Week (POTW) awards for the Louisiana game. Nine players were recognized for their play against the Ragin’ Cajuns. On offense, those chosen were Ross Piersbacher, Henry Ruggs III and two quarterbacks, Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts. Three defensive players were honored, Raekwon Davis, Christian Miller and Trevon Diggs. Special teams players acknowledged were a pair of Jaylens, Waddle and Moody.

Nick Saban Media Session

The full Saban media session can be seen below.

  • Nick called the Arkansas game a “little bit of a trap game.”
  • Jonah (Williams) has a sprained ankle. He probably will be the only guy that may not practice today, maybe he’ll practice tomorrow but for sure probably by Wednesday. Everybody else is OK.
  • On Jedrick Wills, “He’s a physical, aggressive player. I think he’s much more confident in knowing what to do, how to do it, why it’s important to do it that way. His mental errors have gone way down and he’s played very physical.”
  • On Terrell Lewis’ recovery, “Terrell is making really good progress in rehab and what he’s able to do. I’m not a doctor so it’s a medical decision as to when he can start running, doing drills, when he can practice, when he can play. We have no established timetable for those things. It’s strictly up to the medical staff”
  • Saban complimented the team for its performance against Louisiana but later added his displeasure the second unit defense gave up two touchdowns.

Practice Notes

  • Jonah Williams was wearing a brace and Matt Womack took his place in drills. Chris Owens filled in for Williams against Louisiana.
  • Former Alabama football placekicker, Andy Pappanastos observed practice. Fans can debate if that is a good or bad omen for the Crimson Tide kicking game.
