After week seven, the SEC East is wide open with the Bulldogs loss in Baton Rouge. The contenders of Georgia, Florida and Kentucky will ultimately decide who moves onto Atlanta.

A wide-open SEC East division is a surprise to most SEC football fans. Dan Mullen and Mark Stoops have done great jobs putting their teams in a position to make it to Atlanta. The race is so tight every other SEC East team can affect the division and the conference.

UGA vs. LSU: Georgia for the second straight year was embarrassed yet again on the road. Georgia has not looked consistent all season on both sides of the ball and against LSU it showed. Going forward for the Bulldogs they risk not only missing out on the Playoffs but more importantly the SEC Championship. With upcoming games against Florida, Kentucky and Auburn. They must win out in order to win the SEC East.

Florida vs. Vanderbilt: The main talking point from this game was the feud between Derek Mason and Dan Mullen after a targeting call. However, the real story was the resiliency of the Gator’s squad to overcome an 18 point deficit to leave Nashville still in control of their own fate. Florida now heads into the bye week to prepare for an angry and motivated Georgia Bulldog team. For Florida, the SEC East hangs in the balance.

For Vanderbilt, they remain winless in SEC play and will travel to Kentucky. Kentucky coming off their bye week look to redeem themselves after their first loss to TAMU. Kentucky needs the win against Vanderbilt to control their own fate in the East the following week against Georgia. Vanderbilt will have to limit the play of Benny Snell Jr to have any chance against the Wildcats.

Tennessee vs. Auburn: For Jeremy Pruitt, this is the signature win he needed in order to start the rebuilding in Knoxville. The Volunteers had not beat the Tigers since 1999, and for the Volunteers to go on the road and beat an Auburn team will give them much-needed confidence with the Crimson Tide up next.

South Carolina vs. TAMU: For South Carolina, they were unable to come from behind and steal the victory like they did the previous week versus Missouri. South Carolina’s biggest issue is their inconsistency on offense. Jake Bentley has thrown an interception in each of the last three games he has played. South Carolina now heads to the bye week to regroup in order to face the Volunteers in two weeks.

Missouri vs. Alabama: Drew Lock was able to find the end zone for the first time in a long time. However, after the touchdown in the first quarter, the Tigers were unable to score again. The Tigers defense did hold Alabama to three fields inside the red zone. The Tigers looks to regroup against a Memphis team that lost a heartbreaker vs. UCF. For the Tigers going forward, they must limit turnovers and provide Drew Lock with a running game to open up the pass.

What it all means to Alabama fans

For Alabama fans, the rematch with Georgia in Atlanta now comes into question, not only because of the weaknesses showed by Georgia but the improvement of teams like Florida and Kentucky who pose a threat to Georgia. November 3 becomes a must win game for the Tide against LSU or else it could be on the outside looking in, at not only the SEC championship but more importantly the playoffs.
