Mississippi State at LSU in Death Valley

Both LSU and Mississippi State are coming off huge wins over Georgia and Auburn, respectively. LSU’s win over Georgia shook up the SEC East race quite a bit, while the Bulldogs sent Auburn a loss two weeks ago, starting a domino effect that leaves the Tigers virtually out of contention for the title in the West.

Alabama football fans may want to cheer on State the next two weeks. Let’s say Alabama wins against Tennessee. If Mississippi State wins over LSU and then takes down Texas A&M next week, it would give Alabama the two-game lead in the division and they could secure the West with a win over MSU.

This is going to be tough for the Bulldogs, however. A night game in Death Valley tends to favor the home team more often than not. However, expect LSU to have some hangover from the Georgia win.

Auburn at Ole Miss in Oxford, MS

We are deviating from our agenda for this game. It means nothing to either the SEC Championship or the College Football Playoff. A win by either team probably gives a nearly equal, minimal boost to the Tide’s Playoff resume.

Neither team is likely to win many more games after Saturday. As much as we enjoy seeing Auburn lose, we need to be fair to the Tigers. They are still a capable defensive team and Jarrett Stidham is not as bad as his teammates and coach have made him look.

The Ole Miss defense provides an antidote to Auburn’s ills, for at least one week. The Auburn defense has been so designed to stop the run, the secondary has looked exposed. Unfortunately for Auburn, it was not even able to stop the run against Mississippi State. Gus did not adjust before the Tennessee game. The Ole Miss Air Raid scheme can be productive if the Tigers don’t make an adjustment this week.

Since Gus’ reputation and perhaps his Auburn tenure are at risk, we assume he will now make adjustments on both sides of the ball. Who knows, maybe he will even turn Chip Lindsey loose.
