Alabama football sits on top of the College Football Selection Committee Top 25, again. In fact, the top 10 teams were unchanged in the third committee rankings.

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee left its top ten teams intact Tuesday night, with Alabama football at No.1 as expected. The Committee is immune to any other set of rankings and oblivious to the Alabama football fatigue prevalent throughout the landscape of college football.

As college football fans learned last season, the Committee uses multiple points of evaluation for teams, but for a single purpose. That purpose is, in the end, to select the four best teams in college football.

It is also clear the Committee highly values the quality of football played in the SEC. Last week, in the second Top 25 published by the Committee, the SEC had seven teams. The latest ranking includes six SEC teams in the Top 25. Auburn was at No. 24 last week but the Tigers’ loss to Georgia bumped the SEC teams down to six.

None of the other conferences can match the SEC. Check out the results of the third Selection Committee Rankings. The SEC has three of the top seven teams and four of the top 13 teams. In the Top 25, the Big 12 and the B1G follow the SEC’s six teams with four each. The ACC and the PAC 12 have three each.

To understand how much the rankings rankle the fans of other conferences, consider these facts. The SEC has:

  • The highest ranked undefeated team: Alabama
  • The second highest ranked one-loss team: Georgia
  • The highest ranked two-loss team: LSU, who is ranked above three, one-loss, Power Five teams (Washington State, West Virginia and Ohio State) and an undefeated team (UCF).
  • The highest ranked 3-loss team: Florida
  • The highest ranked 4-loss team: Mississippi State

The Committee loving the SEC is an understatement. The Committee is obsessed with the quality of SEC football. The evidence is how highly LSU and Mississippi State are still valued, even after shutout losses to the Crimson Tide.

All the SEC love could flip in any weekend. What Alabama football fans should be rooting for is continued wins by Georgia, LSU, even Florida and Kentucky as the regular season winds down. Mississippi State finishing strong with wins over Arkansas and Ole Miss could end up being important for Alabama football.

Next. What it takes to beat the Tide. dark

The Selection Committee will publish three more iterations of its Top 25 rankings. They will be released on the next two Tuesdays, with the third and final selection on Sun. Dec. 2. Most college football experts believe the Alabama Crimson Tide is in a strong position to make the final four, even with one loss.
