The Citadel Bulldogs

The only thing The Citadel and Alabama football have in common is itself a bit of a stretch. The University of Alabama helped form the Southern Conference (SOCON) in 1921. By 1929, the league included 22 teams. Alabama football left the Southern Conference in 1932 to join several other schools to form the Southeastern Conference. Both the SEC and the ACC were spinoffs from the Southern Conference. The Citadel joined the league in 1936.

What to expect

Other than the Crimson Tide players in line for a redshirt season, the Alabama Crimson Tide will come close to unloading its bench against the Bulldogs. Absolutely nothing can transpire to make this game anything but a mismatch. The biggest challenge for Alabama football will be to come out of the game with no new or no worsened injuries.

The Bulldogs will pocket $500K for the game. That is pretty good money for a school with less than 4,000 enrollment. The experience for The Citadel players may be somewhat painful but even more, it will be priceless.
