Alabama Football: Crimson Tide SEC Championship Game Balls

The Alabama football come-from-behind victory was inspiring. Check out the players, coaches and position groups whose performances were most worthy of special recognition.

Alabama football running back, Josh Jacobs was named the SEC Championship Most Valuable Player. Jacobs gained 83 yards on eight carries and scored two touchdowns. The play of the game for Jacobs was the touchdown-making recovery of his own fumble.

That fortuitous fumble recovery alone is worthy of Game Ball No. 1  to Josh Jacobs. In addition to Josh, Bama Hammer is handing out five more game balls for the Tide’s incredible victory. Some of the other five game balls are shared by both players and coaches.

Alabama football Game Ball No. 2 – Jalen Hurts

In our opinion, Jalen should have been the game’s MVP. His performance was legendary. Two touchdowns scored because of clutch passing and a beautiful quarterback draw. Jalen leading the team to a comeback victory will be forever remembered.

Alabama football Game Ball No. 3 – Nick Saban, Mike Locksley, Dan Enos

The Crimson Tide coaching trio did everything right to keep Jalen involved in the program. Most players would have decided to transfer but to Jalen and his coaches credit, the plan was to make him a better player. Dan Enos deserves most of the credit for making Jalen a better pocket passer. Mike Locksley deserves credit (despite some questionable play-calling earlier in the game) for calling plays well suited to Jalen. Nick Saban cannot be ignored for pulling off the difficult task of doing what was best for his team and for Jalen.

Alabama football Game Ball No. 4 – Shyheim Carter

Shyheim has been solid all season. He played his second straight sensational game Saturday. He had five tackles, three pass break-ups and a QB-hurry. He contested for many more passes.

 Alabama football Game Ball No. 5 – Quinnen Williams

Q was again the best defensive lineman in a game. That is no surprise, but he did it again despite the Tide defense having to play too many snaps. He finished with eight tackles, including one sack and one tackle for a loss.

Alabama football Game Ball No. 6 – Special Teams

Who could have imagined the Crimson Tide would get the upper hand in a special teams battle with Georgia? The beleaguered Tide kickers were solid. Joseph Bulovas was five-for-five on PATs. Punter Mike Bernier had five kicks for a 40.2-yard average. And the even greater surprise, Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 30-yard field goal.

Alabama football is deserving of another game ball for collective determination. A lesser team might have quit believing, which would have led to not fighting hard enough to earn a victory.

We could also give Kirby a game ball for one of the worst calls we have seen in many years. It fooled no one in white and crimson.
