Alabama football got great news Saturday when 5-Star, Dax Hill and 4-Star, Jeffery Carter flipped their commitments to the Crimson Tide.

Daxton Hill from Tulsa, OK is not just another 5-Star commitment in the Alabama football 2019 class. He is a top rated player at a position need for the Tide. Based on the 247Sports Composite, Hill is the No. 8 player overall in the 2019 class and the No. 1 rated safety.

Daxton Hill visited Tuscaloosa last June and became a top priority for the 2019 class. Instead of accepting the Crimson Tide offer, he gave a verbal commitment to the Michigan Wolverines in September.

On Saturday, he de-committed from Michigan and committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

One of the lower profile Alabama football coaches, defensive backs coach, Karl Scott visited Hill earlier in the week. Rumors have been circulating Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh is interested in returning to the NFL. It is not known if those rumors had any impact on Dax Hill’s decision.

Safety is not an easy position for a true freshman, but much like Patrick Surtain last recruiting cycle, Hill already has the necessary physical attributes. The Alabama Crimson Tide coaching staff has planned on signing up to five defensive backs in the 2019 class.

The second flip on Saturday was 4-Star, CB Jeffery Carter. Carter is ranked as the No. 91 player overall in the 2019 class. Carter was a top commit for Jimbo Fisher at TAMU.

Including Hill and Carter, the Crimson Tide now has five DB commits. Athlete Brandon Turnage is expected to play in the secondary. The Crimson Tide also has commits from (CB) Christian Williams and (S) Demarrco Hellams. LSU is working hard to flip Williams. Earlier this week, there was some conjecture Hellams might decide to stay closer to home and flip to Maryland. Hellams has since told the Alabama football staff he is solid to Alabama.

The two other top defensive back prospects, way up the Tide’s Big Board, are Nola Pola-Gates and Marcus Banks. It is not known if either one will have a spot after the commitments of Hill Carter.

The Crimson Tide expects to need a new Starting safety next fall. Junior, Deionte Thompson is a projected first-round pick and is almost certain to decide on a move to the NFL.

In addition to Alabama and Michigan, Dax Hill had offers from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, Washington, USC and close to ten other schools.

Besides his Alabama and TAMU offers, Carter also had offers from Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, Nebraska, Texas and USC.

Alabama football had the No. 1 ranked  2019 class before the Saturday flips. The Crimson Tide is edging close to lock status for also having the No. 1 class at the end of this recruiting cycle.
