Alabama Football: Would Coach Saban depart the Tide for the NFL?
An Alabama Football regular season would not be complete without the annual Nick Saban to the NFL rumors. One would think these rumors were put to rest a long time ago, but apparently not.
If you recall, there once was a time that Alabama football almost lost Nick Saban to the New York Giants. According to Hollywood star, Tom Arnold, the Giants were very close to pulling Coach Saban away from Tuscaloosa. Arnold made it clear in his interview with Paul Finebaum that Coach Saban’s wife, Terry, had a huge part in staying at Alabama. So, once again, thank you, Miss Terry.
The rumors, like always, have popped back up. Which lucky NFL team is in the spotlight this year? You may ask. Well, it looks to be the Green Bay Packers. Former Coach Saban player, Ryan Clark believes Saban is the answer to the Packer’s problems.
"You sell the farm. You sell the farm, you send everyone to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and you try to get Nick Saban to leave Alabama and become the coach."
Easier said than done, right? Clark backs up his claims by explaining that Coach Saban has accomplished basically everything you can possibly accomplish in college football. He states that Saban has proven everything that he needs to prove, and that he needs a bigger task.
As unlikely as it may seem, Coach Saban might decide to flirt with the opportunity, but I wouldn’t bet on any serious conversations taking place. I believe the Saban family, especially Terry, has found a forever home in Tuscaloosa, and it’s going to take an extraordinarily amazing offer to lure them away.
Even the legendary Bear Bryant jolted at NFL offers from time to time. The Miami Dolphins offered Coach Bryant an unthinkable amount of money. After speaking to Alabama football’s athletic authorities, he practically relieved himself of his head coaching position, but less than 24 hours later Coach Bryant decided to reject the NFL offer and return to Alabama.
Coach Saban will do what he believes is right for himself, his family, and the University of Alabama. Like I stated above, I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over the entire situation. If I was a betting man, then I would bet an entire 15-0 season that Coach Saban returns to Alabama.
Job offers are the last thing on Coach Saban’s mind. The Crimson Tide is currently preparing for their match-up with the Oklahoma Sooners on December 29th. The winner of the Orange Bowl will go on to play for the National Championship.
