Alabama Football: Final 2019 recruiting push this weekend
By Ronald Evans
Alabama football makes the final push for the 2019 signing class with in-home visits and key players coming to Tuscaloosa.
After missing out on another national championship, it is tempting for Alabama football fans to think the Crimson Tide is in a rebuilding mode. In case of the Alabama football staff, Nick Saban is definitely in a rebuilding mode. The roster, however, is much more reload than rebuild. And the Crimson Tide is reloading quite well.
There are a few available slots for the 2019 class. How many can only be guessed. Without going into all the rumored variables, there appears to be room to lock in three of the current four verbal commits and add two to four more players. Nick Saban always works numbers magic but the 2019 class might be his greatest challenge.
Big in-home visits this week
Saban travels to the west coast to sit down with two top targets, inside linebackers Henry To’oto’o and Daniel Heimuli. The Tide is believed to be in a strong position for To’oto’o. The latest buzz is Saban may try to make room for both players. Heimuli is scheduled to visit Tuscaloosa this weekend. Washington appears to be the greatest threat to the Tide. The Tennessee Vols appear to be fading for To’oto’o.
Visitors for the last weekend
On the last weekend for campus visits in the 2019 recruiting cycle, the Tide has key players coming to Tuscaloosa. Expected are Heimuli; 4-Star, defensive linemen, Nathan Pickering, Quashon Fuller and Jaquaze Sorrells and 5-Star running back, Jerrion Ealy.
Alabama football fans have been concerned staff changes would damage chances to close some of these top players. Losing Tosh Lupoi was a negative but some of the new staff members are more than making up for Tosh’s exit. Charles Huff, Sal Sunseri, Charles Kelly and Brian Baker have existing relationships with several of the remaining targets. The staff changes appear so far to be impacting recruiting more positively than negatively.
It appears even if the Tide holds on to verbal commit, Keilan Robinson, it will also take Ealy. Ealy might opt for professional baseball or he could become a two-sport guy for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Whatever the numbers crunch, Ealy is too good to not find room in the 2019 class.
Crimson Tide commit, 4-Star, Byron Young is expected to visit LSU this weekend. He is a priority and most recruiting insiders believe the Tide remains in a strong position. No one knows where outside linebacker, commit, Khris Bogle will eventually land. Bogle visited Florida last week and is expected at Miami this weekend. Former 5-Star, Ishmael Sopsher is expected to visit LSU on the last recruiting weekend.
Signing Day is Feb. 6 with the dead period beginning on Feb. 4. Check in with Bama Hammer on Feb. 5 for a final look at what to expect on Signing Day.
