Alabama football coach Nick Saban made his seven new hires and one promotion official on Friday. Other staff assignments were also announced.

Some Alabama football fans embrace change, as in whatever staff changes Nick Saban makes, must be what the Tide needs. Other fans worry over the negative impact lack of coaching continuity may cause.

We embrace both responses. Whatever Nick sees fit, but while doing it, try to stem the pattern of revolving door coaches. The Alabama Crimson Tide has added considerable coaching experience. Eight members of the 10-man staff of assistants have Coordinator or Head Coach experience.

The position assignments affected all but one of the returning Crimson Tide assistants. Jeff Banks is the only assistant whose job has not been affected.  Banks remains as the tight ends and special teams coach.

Saban made the staff changes without naming any ‘Co-Coordinators.’  Steve Sarkisian is the Offensive Coordinator and the Quarterbacks coach. Pete Golding was promoted to Defensive Coordinator. Saban named former FSU DC, Charles Kelly as Associate defensive coordinator and safeties assistant. Golding will also coach the inside linebackers. Brian Baker was named defensive line coach and also gained an extra role as Associate Head Coach.

Also on defense, the Alabama football staff may have one less on-field coach working with the secondary. Karl Scott’s past role was defensive backs coach with Nick Saban helping with the cornerbacks. Scott is now assigned to just the cornerbacks. Charles Kelly will coach the safeties. These particular staff assignments may mean Nick Saban will spend more time with other position groups.

On the offensive side of the ball, Nick Saban named Charles Huff as Running Backs coach and Associate Head Coach. The wide receivers coach is Holman Wiggins. Former Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood will coach the Crimson Tide offensive line.

Alabama football fans hope for another shot at a national championship. The experience of the new staff certainly appears to be a significant advantage for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Nick Saban spoke about the new staff,

"These coaches have a great mix of energy, enthusiasm and experience that will be a tremendous asset to our program. They are all excellent teachers of the game and fantastic recruiters who bring a wealth of experience to our staff."

Next. The difference between talking and doing. dark

Long before we know the outcome of another national championship run, the new Tide staff will be measured by recruiting. At Alabama being a strong coach is not enough.
