Alabama Football: NFL Draft Rounds 4 through 7 update

The last day of the NFL Draft began with five former Alabama football players having been drafted in the first three rounds. Check out all the Saturday selections.

Friday was a good day for two former Alabama football players in Irv Smith Jr. and Damien Harris. It was a disappointing day for other former Crimson Tide players. Mack Wilson and Deionte Thompson were never expected to still be waiting on Draft calls in the fourth round. Particularly disappointing was the large number of safeties who were selected in the Draft’s first three rounds. Thompson’s decision to leave school early will be much debated. The same can be said for Mack Wilson.

Also still having to sweat out a selection are Christian Miller, Isaiah Buggs, Saivion Smith and Ross Piersbacher. After all picks were in, 10 former Crimson Tide players were drafted. Included below is information on the Alabama football players selected in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Sixth Round

Isaiah Buggs was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 192 pick. That makes 10 former Crimson Tide players chosen in the 2019 Draft.

Fifth Round

Mack Wilson selected by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 155 selection.

With the No. 153 selection Ross Piersbacher was selected by the Washington (Crimson Tide) Redskins. The Skins made Ross the eighth former Crimson Tide player on the roster.

In the first pick of the fifth round at No. 139 overall Deionte Thompson was selected by the Arizona Cardinals.

Fourth Round

Christian Miller was selected by the Carolina Panthers as the No. 115 pick in the fourth round.

Third Round

Damien Harris was selected by the New England Patriots as the No. 87 pick in the third round. Even though Damien was not selected until the third round, going to the defending champions is a great opportunity.

Second Round

Irv Smith Jr. was selected by the Minnesota Vikings as the No. 50 pick in the second round.

Irv Smith Jr. was a record-setting tight end for the Crimson Tide. Last season Irv caught 44 passes for 710 yards and seven touchdowns. The TD catches set a new single-season Crimson Tide record for a tight end. His production for the Crimson Tide led to speculation he would be a first-round selection, but ending up with the Vikings is a good situation for Irv.

First Round Selections

Quinnen Williams was the first, going at pick No.3 to the New York Jets. Quinnen’s older brother, Quincy, a linebacker from Murray State was also drafted at No. 98 by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jonah Williams followed as the No. 11 pick going to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The third Crimson Tide first-round selection went to Josh Jacobs as the No. 24 pick to the Oakland Raiders.

Another special note for Crimson Tide fans – Nick Saban is now the King of the NFL first-round. With the three first-round picks, Nick Saban now has a college football record with 34 first-round picks during his 23 seasons of college coaching. The previous record belonged to Joe Paterno with 33 first-round selections in 43 seasons of coaching.
