Part 2 of our series of the ‘Best-Ever’ players coached by Nick Saban includes the Alabama football positions, quarterback and running back.

In Part 1 of our series of the best Alabama football players coached by Nick Saban we reviewed the special teams’ positions of placekicker, punter, along with punt and kick returners.

Part 2 jumps to the offense and begins with the easiest of all the ‘Best-Ever’ selections. The quarterback pick is provided by Bama Hammer Contributor, Ron Moody.

Best-Ever Nick Saban Quarterback – Tua Tagovailoa

The best quarterback to play under Nick Saban is Tua Tagovailoa. Entering a national championship game in the second half, while down, and delivering three touchdowns plus an all-time game-winning throw is purely the stuff of legends.

Starting the following season with extraordinary hype, he lived up to the top billing. Although the team did not win the national championship, Tagovailoa smashed all Alabama offensive records with 3,966 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 199.4 passer rating.

A technician of his craft, Tua’s pinpoint accuracy, cannon arm, and sharp football I.Q. provided Alabama with a potent offense, never witnessed in Tuscaloosa. The silky, smooth lefty made enough brilliant plays and spectacular throws to star in college football highlight reels forever.

Honorable Mention: AJ McCarron

Best Ever Nick Saban Running Back – Derrick Henry

The running back pick is provided by Bama Hammer Contributor, Lauri Springer.

Alabama Football has been stacked at the running back position for years. That group of talent includes Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy, TJ Yeldon, Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, Bo Scarborough, Damien Harris, Josh Jacobs, and Najee Harris. It’s like the University is breeding these beasts in a lab somewhere. Year after year, there is another monster in the backfield kicking butts and taking names.

Picking the best running back to play under Nick Saban is another tough challenge. All of these backs were so talented in their own unique ways. Josh Jacobs story makes him my personal favorite, but in terms of talent and performance, I believe Derrick Henry to be the best running back to play under Nick Saban.

In Henry’s last Heisman winning season, he ran for nearly 2000 yards on 339 carries averaging almost 6 yards per carry. Henry’s monstrous size helped run over defenders in his path. He tied the conference record for rushing touchdowns in a season. He led the nation in rushing yards and rushing attempts. He had quite the workload in his last season with the Tide carrying the offense behind quarterback Jake Coker.

Honorable Mention: Mark Ingram

More than a few Alabama football fans believe another Crimson Tide Heisman Trophy winner will come in the 2019 season. A healthy Tua should win it easily.
