Alabama football crowned a 14-hour frenzy of verbal commitments by adding 2020, 4-Star, Kristian Story. The Crimson Tide added three commits in that short time.

There are several important things for Alabama football fans to know about Kristian Story. There are no average, 4-Star, Top 250 players. That is particularly true of Kristian Story.

Ranked by the 247Sports Composite at the No. 224 player overall in the 2020 class is misleading. Story is rated as an Athlete and often that non-position distinction tends to lower a player’s ranking. Sometimes, the Athlete label is applied to recruits with impressive physical talents, but who don’t excel at any certain position.

Other than his impressive physical talents, Kristian Story is not the typical ‘Athlete.’ The son of a coach, Story has learned how to play several positions. In high school, his primary position has been quarterback, but he also played wide receiver, safety and cornerback. He plays them all well.

His father and high school coach, Clifford Story has stated he thinks of his son first as a quarterback. Kristian has a green light to pursue that position with Alabama football. Some recruiting insiders believe Story is even better suited to playing safety in college. Kristian has a strong interest in using his physical skills on the defensive side of the ball.

Alabama football fans are wondering if adding Story means the Tide staff has slowed on its recruitment of Bryce Young. While it is true, slots in the 2020 class are limited, one slot will be held for Young in anticipation of an official visit this fall.

Story’s high school stats are impressive but they have been achieved at a lower level of competition. Lanett High School plays in the 1A classification in the state of Alabama.

Check out these Kristian Story highlights.

It is hard to project how good Story can be as a college quarterback. The level of high school competition is a concern. There is no doubt he has QB skills. He is elusive and can make some throws. Consider what he could do once he is actually taught how to play the position.

He will probably end up as a Crimson Tide safety. Or if Bryce Young does not flip from Southern Cal, Kristian Story might be the only QB addition Alabama football needs in the 2020 class.

New Crimson Tide assistant coach, Charles Kelly was a big reason Story chose Alabama football. Kelly coached Clifford Story at Jacksonville.
