Alabama Football: Crimson Tide players racking up award lists

Alabama football players are again well represented in early player award watch lists. Nine Crimson Tide players have been added to watch lists.

Alabama football players win post-season individual player awards frequently. Over the last five seasons, Crimson Tide players have won 18, national, major post-season, player awards.

The big winners in the five-year period are Jonathan Allen and Derrick Henry with four player awards each. Tua Tagovailoa could match that total and even surpass it in the 2019 season.

Several 2019 Alabama football players have been named to watch lists. The most recent additions are Alex Leatherwood and Alex Wills Jr. to the Outland Trophy watch list. The Outland goes to the best lineman in college football. Quinnen Williams won the Outland Trophy last season. The last Crimson Tide offensive lineman to win the award was Cam Robinson in 2016.

Nine other Crimson Tide players have been named to awards, watch lists. Tua Tagovailoa has been added to the Maxwell Award (Top offensive player in college football) and Davey O’Brien Award (Best quarterback) lists. Tua won the Maxwell last season.

Other Crimson Tide offensive players named to watch lists are Jerry Jeudy, Najee Harris and Miller Forristall. Jeudy is on the watch lists for the Maxwell, and the Biletnikoff Award for college football’s best receiver. Jeudy won the Biletnikoff last season.

Najee Harris is on the Maxwell watch list and the Doak Walker (Best running back) list. Miller Forristall is on the Mackey Award (Best tight end) watch list.

Alabama Crimson Tide defensive players have not been left out. Dylan Moses leads the way for the Tide defense. Moses is on Butkus Award (Best linebacker) watch list and the Bednarik Award (Best defensive player) watch list. Also on the Butkus list are Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis. Raekwon Davis joins Moses on the Bednarik list. Xavier McKinney is on the Jim Thorpe (Best defensive back) watch list.

Over the last five seasons, Crimson Tide players have won the following player awards.

  • Dick Butkus Award – Reuben Foster (2016)
  • Bronko Nagurski Award – Jonathan Allen (2016)
  • Lombardi Award – Jonathan Allen (2016)
  • Ted Hendricks Award – Jonathan Allen (2015)
  • Rimington Trophy – Ryan Kelly (2015)
  • Doak Walker Award – Derrick Henry (2015)
