Alabama Football remained at the top of the Bama Hammer, SEC Power Rankings after week three of the season.

Let’s be honest, week three was pretty much ho-hum across the SEC. Alabama football had a long-awaited return to South Carolina. The Florida Gators traveled to Lexington to take on the Wildcats. Mississippi State had a good contest, hosting Kansas State in Starkville.

With one exception, the remaining slate of games were bought wins against inferior opponents. That exception was Arkansas, who prevailed against Colorado State. Any win for the Hogs is a good win.

Ranking the teams each week is not easy. Even harder would have been ranking the worst week-three SEC opponents. The choices were Kent State (Auburn), Chattanooga (Tennessee), Arkansas State (Georgia), Lamar (TAMU), Southeast Louisiana (Ole Miss), Southeast Missouri State (Missouri) and Northwestern State (LSU).

Based on last week’s rankings, Missouri was the big upward mover. With the Bulldogs’ loss to Kansas State, Joe Moorhead’s team took a dive in the rankings.

The Bama Hammer staff rankings are done by six voters, with a No. 1 vote receiving 14 points down to a No. 14 vote receiving one point. Quick math shows 84 points is a unanimous No. 1 ranking.

In our first two SEC Power Rankings, Alabama football gained the maximum of 84 points. The Alabama Crimson Tide took a slight, one-point dip this week down to 83 points. To protect the innocent, I admit to not voting Alabama football No. 1. Readers can fire back at my heresy but at this point in the season, I see Georgia as the more complete team.
