With a relatively easy schedule so far, Alabama football should be strong in all stat comparisons. It is on offense but not so much on defense.

There is good news and not so good news, maybe even bad news about current Alabama football stats. An easier than normal schedule should have the Alabama Crimson Tide near the top of most national and conference statistical categories.

Check the stats compiled by the NCAA and you will see the Crimson Tide lags behind in some defensive stats and is even middle-of-the-pack in the SEC. Three games is not a large enough sample size to cause alarm. But the numbers could portend further problems later in the season when the opposition becomes tougher.

A good question is which stats most matter. For example, Alabama football is No. 60 in the FBS and No. 7 in the SEC in Team Sacks. Nick Saban is not a fan of this particular stat. He is more concerned about affecting the QB with hurries or collapsing the pocket. In that Team Sack category, Florida leads the SEC.

As we said up top, Alabama football fans should not be too dismayed about the weaker stats. The CFB season is still young.
