Alabama Football: Latest recruiting news for the Crimson Tide
By Ronald Evans
The Alabama football 2020 class got a boost on Wednesday with a new commit and an upgrade of a previous commit to a 5-Star.
The Alabama football recruiting class is back at 23 verbal commits. Jamil Burroughs, former Georgia commit, announced on Wednesday he has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Burroughs is a 4-Star, defensive tackle who was high on the Tide’s board after the Tide staff saw him work at a camp. Burroughs has made five visits to Tuscaloosa in 2019.
Burroughs is a high school teammate of another 2020 Crimson Tide commit, wide receiver, Javon Baker. Burroughs intends to enroll early. Burroughs is now the fourth defensive lineman commit for the Crimson Tide. The Alabama football staff is expected to add at least one more. There is some concern a couple of current d-linemen commits may not end up in the 2020 class.
There was other good news for the Crimson Tide this week. The 247Sports Composite upgraded Tide quarterback commit, Bryce Young to a 5-Star. Young is now rated as the No. 21 player overall in the 2020 class. Young is also ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat QB in the 2020 class.
There is other 5-Star news for Alabama football. The nation’s No. 2 player in the 2020 class is expected to visit Tuscaloosa on an official visit. 5-Star defensive end, Jordan Burch is expected to spend LSU weekend with the Alabama football staff. Burch is from Columbia, SC and most recruiting experts believe he will end up at Clemson. Alabama football insiders think the Tide has quietly put itself in a position to land Burch.
Speaking of 5-Stars, it is rumored Zach Evans will travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend on an unofficial visit. In the past, Evans has been close to committing to the Crimson Tide, Georgia and Texas A&M. His latest visit was to LSU. The talented running back has reportedly had some volatile encounters with his high school coaches. Evans’ actions were serious enough to give pause to some of the top schools pursuing him. He also has failed to show up for expected visits at multiple schools.
One more 5-Star who might make big news soon is tight end, Arik Gilbert. The highly coveted prospect is said to be leaning to a decision sooner than was previously expected. Several recruiting experts believe the Georgia tight end will commit to the Crimson Tide.
Another 2020 running back prospect is expected in Tuscaloosa this weekend. 4-Star APB and Georgia Tech commit, Jahmyr Gibbs is very much in play for the Crimson Tide.
