After suffering a severe hip injury in Saturday’s game against Mississippi State, Tua Tagovailoa is done for the season. In light of his heartbreaking injury, we thank him for everything he gave to Alabama Football.

Dear Tua,

The shock is over, and the wound is festering. While so much remains unknown, one soul wrenching thing is certain: your 2019 season is over. It was stripped from you in the most unfair way possible.

It’s not necessarily time to close your book yet. Given the long recovery time, it’s at least possible you return for your senior season. Yet with a life changing financial business decision on the line, us Bama fans wouldn’t blame you for leaving for the league.

In light of the fact that yesterday may have been your last time in Crimson and White, thank you. Thank you for everything you have given to Alabama nation. It was certainly everything you had to give.

Thank you for being an overcomer. You sat behind Jalen Hurts knowing your worth. You came close to transferring after the first season. You knew what you were capable of and needed to share it with the college football world.

You took on the biggest stage possible with the grace, poise, and maturity of a veteran. You made a rookie mistake with an interception early but fought back. You were responsible for 2nd and 26, and those two numbers will never be the same again.

You went from an unknown backup to a household name overnight. You took the fame in stride always giving the glory to God, your family, your teammates, and coaches never accepting any of the credit yourself. You continued to give the highest praise to the quarterback you replaced.

You fought through injuries, always coming back stronger afterward. You led the Alabama Football team to a 29-0 victory over LSU with a nagging knee injury. You gave it your all in the SEC Championship game after getting rolled up on early in the game. When you finally had to leave the field, you became Jalen Hurts’ biggest cheerleader on the sideline.

Thank you for showing the importance of family. As incredible as you are, it has never been just you. It has always been a Tagovailoa family affair. Your family has made a lasting impact on all of Alabama nation and the media alike. Now we get to watch your brother continue in the Tagovailoa legacy.

Thank you for always making it look so easy. You were as close to perfection as any college quarterback has ever been. You completely transformed Alabama Football’s style of offense. You single handedly took it from a team that relied on its defense to a team that scores on nearly every drive. You changed the Alabama quarterback position from a game manager to a game changer.

You perfected the RPO. You hit every receiver in the hands in perfect stride. On the rare occasion of an incompletion, you would always pat yourself on the chest taking the blame. You didn’t have the opportunity to even play two full seasons, and considering the number of games you left early because of the substantial lead, the game time was minimal compared to most former Alabama Football quarterbacks. Yet you broke every record the Alabama Football team previously held.

You hold the record for total touchdowns responsible for at 94.

You hold the record for total passing touchdowns at 85.

You hold the record for number of passing touchdowns in a single game at 6.

You won the Maxwell Award.

You won the Walter Camp Player of the Year award.

You were the runner up in the 2018 Heisman race.

Your elite play resulted in another Heisman level quarterback transferring schools.

You have rewritten the Alabama Football record books, and there is no one more deserving of every accolade.

For all of this, it’s not fair. It’s not fair your season ended on that note. It’s not fair you don’t get a chance to chase greatness in the College Football Playoff. It’s not fair you don’t get to avenge last year’s loss. It’s not fair.

Tua, you gave us your all. Every play. Every down. Every throw. You left every ounce of you on the field every game. You are a true warrior. For that, we are forever grateful. You make it an honor to be an Alabama Football fan.

The media and fan reaction to your injury speaks for itself. Tua, you are special. All of the college football world recognizes that.

God has a plan for you. Thankfully your football career does not end here. The world gets to see you pursue your dreams in the league. Watching you rewrite the record books there will be an honor and a privilege.
