Alabama Football Recruiting: What will happen on Early Signing Day
By Ronald Evans
Check out what will happen with player decisions and signings for the Alabama football, 2020 signing class on the first day of the Early Signing Period.
Alabama football fans are ready for more recruiting success beginning with the first day of early signing on Wednesday. Almost all of the three day, early period, activity will happen on the first day.
This post details what we expect to happen Wednesday, with notes on what may happen later in January and February. The format is a list beginning with the early enrollees who we expect will sign with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Following that is a list of expected signees who will not enroll early. Then there is a short list of verbal commits not expected to sign in the early period. We also break down the remaining targets for Signing Day in February. Lastly, we provide another short list of targeted players we believe will not decide early or who will choose a different school. Nothing would please us more than being wrong on some of them.
A quick note on our Bama Hammer reporting for Wednesday. A primary post will list the actual signing activity. It will be updated throughout the day, with the most recent signing at the top of the post. We will also publish player profiles on numerous members of the 2020 class. These will be published beginning Wednesday and continue throughout the week.

2020 Verbal Commits who might sign in the Early Period
- Tim Smith, 4-Star, Defensive Lineman – Smith is a risk to flip to Florida. Our guess is he sticks with the Crimson Tide
- Damieon George, 3-Star, Offensive Lineman – Possible grade concerns might delay George
2020 Verbal Commits who will not sign on Dec. 18
- Javon Baker, 4-Star, Wide Receiver – Possible grade concerns will delay Baker
- Jamil Burroughs, 4-Star, Defensive Tackle – Possible grade concerns will delay Burroughs
- Jayson Jones, 4-Star, Defensive Lineman – May or may not sign later
Remaining Targets for 2020 Class
- Jordan Burch, 5-Star, Defensive End – South Carolina, Georgia or Clemson
- Darnell Washington, 5-Star, Athlete – Recruiting will remain open
- Rakim Jarrett, 5-Stae, Wide Receiver – Recruiting will remain open
- Phillip Webb, 4-Star, Linebacker – LSU
- Arian Smith, 4-Star, Wide Receiver – Georgia
- McKinnley Jackson, 4-Star, Defensive Lineman – Recruiting will remain open
- Jeremiah Pegues, 4-Star, Athlete – If the Tide staff waits on Washington, Pegues will sign with Auburn. It is possible he will choose Auburn even if pushed at the 11th hour by the Tide.
Depending on what happens in the early period, the Tide staff may pursue other targets for a February decision.
