Alabama Football: Updates on Day 1 of Early Signing Period

The Early Signing Period has arrived for the Alabama football, 2020 class. Check out every signing announcement and other developments throughout Wednesday.

The first early signing day is finished for Alabama football. Of the 22 players detailed below, 13 will enroll in January. The verbal commits not signing today were on hold for either concern over grades or because they no longer have a standard offer. The Crimson Tide could add players during the next two days but currently, none are expected.  Assuming two or three guys clear grade hurdles later, there should still be room to add two or three more players in February.

Alabama Football 2020 Class Signees – 6:50 PM, CST Update

Current Total 2020 Signees – 22

Crimson Tide adds another wide receiver to the 2020 class. 4-Star, Traeshon Holden will become one of the bigger Tide receivers. Holden is 6’3″ and 195 pounds. He should easily be able to play at 205 pounds or more. That size will make him a tough matchup for cornerbacks.

Alabama Football 2020 Class Signees – 6:00 PM, CST Update

Current Total 2020 Signees – 21

Another running back signs with the Crimson Tide. The latest is a flip from the Oklahoma Sooners. 4-Star running back, Jase McClellan completes what will be a full running back room for the Tide. McClellan is rated as the No. 43 player in the 2020 class.

McClellan is the Tide’s 10th signee in the Top 100 players based on the 247Sports Composite.

The Crimson Tide needed to replenish its secondary and JUCO All-American, Ronald Williams will contend for a starting role next season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Alabama football has signed many top players today. It has also signed more than a few young men who appear destined to become team leaders. Its 19th signee will step on campus as a leader. 5-Star, quarterback, Bryce Young is arguably the best QB in the 2020 class. He is also ranked as the No. 6 player overall. He has all the requisite skills to be a star. The most favorable accolade of all is comparing Bryce’s character to Tua Tagovailoa.

Alabama Football 2020 Class Signees – 3:25 PM, CST Update

Current Total 2020 Signees – 18

The 2020 Signing class adds 4-Star, defensive end, Will Anderson and 4-Star, safety, Malachi Moore. Anderson is a pass rushing specialist who will probably play outside linebacker for the Tide. He is ranked as the No. 78 player in the 2020 class.

BIG NEWS for the Crimson Tide! 4-Star, defensive tackle, Tim Smith signs with Alabama, despite a hard push from his home state, Florida Gators. Inking Smith was essential in a defensive front rebuild.

Multi-talented athlete, Kristian Story also joins the Tide. Story can play all over the field. He is a dual-threat QB or could play wide receiver. His best position for the Tide may prove to be safety.

The Crimson Tide adds 3-Star, tight end, Caden Clark to the 2020 class.

In other recruiting news, 4-Star, wide receiver target, Arian Smith chose the Georgia Bulldogs.

Current Total 2020 Signees – 13

Adding to what could become Nick Saban’s best linebacker class ever, 4-Star (likely to end up a 5-Star) Demouy Kennedy has joined the Tide. LSU tried mightily to flip Kennedy but came up short for the in-state player.

In a stunning development, 5-Star, LSU wide receiver commit, Rakim Jarrett has flipped from LSU to his home state of Maryland. He was the Tide’s top receiver target.

Another elite linebacker joins the Tide. 4-Star, outside linebacker, Quandarrius Robinson is rated as the No. 46 player in the 2020 class.

The 2020 linebacker room is filling up for the Crimson Tide. 5-Star, Chris Braswell is a huge addition to the Tide defense. He is joined by 4-Star, inside linebacker, Jackson Bratton. Alabama football insiders speculate Bratton is underrated and will be a future starter.

The Crimson Tide adds its first 5-Star of the day. Drew Sanders is rated as an athlete but is expected to play outside linebacker for the Tide.

Two more signees have joined the Crimson Tide. 4-Star cornerback Jacquez Robinson picked the Tide over Oklahoma and several other Power Five schools. Robinson will be joining the Crimson Tide for bowl practice. 4-Star wide receiver, Thaiu Jones-Bell continues the Tide tradition of wideouts from the state of Florida.

Another running back joins the Crimson Tide. 3-Star RB, Kyle Edwards is considered by the Tide staff as filling a need as a power runner.

No. 4 is in for the Crimson Tide. 4-Star running back Roydell Williams joins the Tide backfield. Williams is rated as the No. 86 player in the 2020 class.

The third Crimson Tide signee is Javion Cohen. The 4-Star offensive lineman is projected to play tackle for the Tide. Cohen was previously committed to Auburn.

Alabama football began Wednesday of the Early Signing Period with an early rush of announcements. Before 8:00 AM CST, the Crimson Tide pulled in its first two official signees in the 2020 class.

Those first two signees were 4-Star, Safety, Brian Branch and 3-Star, Offensive Lineman, Seth McLaughlin. McLaughlin is ranked well below almost all his fellow, future 2020 class members in the 247Sports Composite.  The Alabama football staff does not recruit on the basis of stars assigned by rating services. The Crimson Tide coaches certainly rate McLaughlin more highly than do the recruiting rating services.

Brian Branch is an altogether different level of player. Branch is the No. 58 rated player in the 2020 class. He too fills a position of need in the Alabama football defense at safety. Branch is sometimes compared to current Crimson Tide freshman, Jordan Battle. Some Alabama football recruiting insiders believe Branch has even more potential than the talented Battle.

Seth McLaughlin is expected to enroll early. Brian Branch will join the Alabama Crimson Tide in the early summer.
