After Tua, Alabama football fans should not expect another once-in-a-generation quarterback. Bryce Young may leave Tide fans with no choice.

Bryce Young is the consensus top quarterback in the 2020 class. Not a single Alabama football fan will disagree. When Bryce and his family decided leaving the West Coast for Tuscaloosa was a sound career move, the conventional wisdom was the Crimson Tide had its quarterback of the future.

When Tua Tagovailoa let the college football world know he might delay joining the NFL, some Tide fans thought Bryce might change his mind. Reportedly, USC made another push to get their one-time top commit back. Late in the recruiting cycle for the Early Signing Period, many other schools, including Georgia tried to get Bryce to take one last official visit.

This week, Craig Young said,

"before we signed did we as a family take some time and say let’s pray on this and make sure this is what we want to do? Of course we did. That’s what you do when you are making a life-changing decision. There was a never a time when Bryce was in jeopardy of not coming to Alabama."

What Bryce accomplished in his high school career is stunning. Especially so, because the last two seasons, playing for Mater Dei High School, he faced some of the top competition in the nation. His final numbers were over 13,000 yards passing for 152 touchdowns against just 20 interceptions. He also rushed for over 1,000 yards and had 26 rushing touchdowns. When Nick Saban talked about Bryce on the late afternoon on Signing Day, he said the QB as electric. Indeed, that is the perfect one-word description.

Young’s high school coach, Bruce Rollinson used a few more words to describe Bryce.

"Don’t anyone tell him what to do because I don’t know where he’s going, but whenever he gets out there it’s magical. He makes things happen. We’ve learned a lot from him. The kid never gets all watered up and never gets down. The positive influence he brought every day rubbed off on all of us. You just don’t get nervous with him."

Alabama football fans will quickly conclude his coach’s description of Bryce sounds much like Tua in demeanor and leadership.

How much should Alabama football fans expect from Bryce Young? A short answer is – much. A better question is how soon. Even if Tua leaves for the NFL, Bryce will have stiff competition from Mac Jones and perhaps Taulia Tagovailoa. 2020 may not be the time for Bryce but his Crimson Tide future appears bright.

dark. Next. Crimson Tide All-Decade Team

Tua’s thoughts on perhaps not choosing NFL early-entry had no impact on Bryce Young. The young man made it clear he will come to Tuscaloosa ready to learn from and compete against whoever is in the Tide’s QB room.
