Alabama Football’s Top Ten Moments of the Decade
7. 2014: Blake Sims’ overtime touchdown over LSU
The Tide vs Tigers rivalry is one of the best because it’s never lacking for exciting games. The Tigers traditionally give the Tide one of its hardest games of the season each year. In 2014, it was Blake Sims who felt the ice in his veins.
As shocking as it may seem as of recent, Sims led the Tide down the field 55 yards to set up Adam Griffith’s game tying field goal. This took the game into overtime where Sims and the Alabama Football offense had the first possession. On the heels of Derrick Henry driving down the field, Sims threw a six-yard touchdown pass to DeAndrew White to give the Tide the lead. After four straight Anthony Jennings’ incompletions, the Crimson Tide won 20-13.
6. 2012: The clock ran out on Georgia’s SEC Championship hopes
In 2012, Alabama Football was looking to repeat as National Champions. The only thing standing in the way was Georgia in the SEC Championship game. With 3:15 remaining in the game, AJ McCarron found Amari Cooper for a 45-yard touchdown pass putting the Tide up four points.
Aaron Murray had plenty of time to take the Dawgs down the field to kill the Crimson Tide’s championship dreams. They worked all the way down to the Alabama five yard line with a second and goal awaiting. Yet with no time outs and the play clock running at five seconds left, the clock ran out before Murray could get in one final play. The Tide secured the 2012 SEC Championship and went on to beat Notre Dame in the National Championship.
