Days away from National Signing Day, Alabama football reclaimed the No. 1 position in recruiting for the 2020 class, as measured by the 247Sports Composite.

Many Alabama football fans were pleased Tuesday afternoon, when the final, pre-Signing Day 247Sports Composite was released. The final Team Rankings will shift as players sign and some players flip. The individual player rankings will not change.

Before diving into the details, there are two points to remember. Most importantly, too much celebrating by Crimson Tide fans will be portrayed by others as a poor substitute for no National Championship to celebrate. Also, the Tide’s No. 1 ranking is strengthened by a total of 26 signees and commitments. Georgia and Clemson, both closely trail the Tide. Georgia’s ranking comes from only 21 players. Clemson’s count is 23 players.

Simply put, the Bulldogs and the Tigers have more room than the Tide to add players. When they do, the Alabama football, 2020 class will probably slip to No. 2 or No. 3. It does not appear the Tide can slip enough to be overtaken by No. 4 LSU.

The top, recent rising players for the Crimson Tide have been 5-Star, QB, Bryce Young, new 5-Star, DE. Will Anderson and 4-Star, DT, Tim Smith. Young is the No. 1, Dual-threat quarterback and the No. 2 player overall. Anderson is the No. 1, WDE and No. 17 player overall. Smith is the No. 8 DT and the No. 55 player overall.

The Crimson Tide has four of the 31, 5-Star players in the 2020 class. Joining Young and  Anderson are Chris Braswell and Drew Sanders. Braswell is the No. 2 WDE and the No. 19 player overall. Sanders was rated as an athlete, though he is expected to play outside linebacker for the Crimson Tide. He is the No. 1 ATH and the No. 22 player overall.

The Crimson Tide list of recruits includes six players inside the nation’s Top 50. The Crimson Tide has four more signees inside the nation’s Top 100 players. The top remaining recruiting target for the Tide is 4-Star, DT, McKinnley Jackson. Jackson is ranked as the No. 9 defensive tackle and the No. 61 player overall.

Following the Crismon Tide, Georgia, Clemson and LSU in the latest team rankings are:

  • No. 5 – Ohio State
  • No. 6 – Texas A&M
  • No. 7 – Auburn
  • No. 8 – Florida
  • No. 9 – Oklahoma
  • No. 10 – Michigan

Other SEC schools in the Top 25 of Team Rankings are Tennessee (14), South Carolina (19) and Kentucky (23.) The second, lowest-ranked SEC school is Vanderbilt. The Commodores at No. 55 are five spots higher than Southern Cal. The lowest-ranked SEC school is Missouri at No. 61.
