VERDICT: Well, the verdict is in.. we find the Alabama Crimson Tide in an excellent position. Last year was bombarded with injuries, yes. Now the Tide not only get the injured players back but the ones who were forced to start have experience under their belt. Once again, while the rest of the SEC was playing checkers, Nick Saban and Alabama were playing Chess. With the strong starting defensive front, experienced linebackers ready for revenge, and a secondary coming out hot with something to prove, this could become an elite defense.

It will also help that Pete Golding will have a year under his belt. With the opening game against USC in Arlington, this could be the perfect opportunity to showcase said defense as USC will be hungry to prove they are better than their 8-5 record from last year. As long as Alabama does not get stricken with the injury bug again, opponents have an obvious reason to be concerned about the Alabama defense this year.

With all the weapons coming back for the Alabama defense, it would not be a surprise to see them in the Top 5-10 in total defense when all is said and done.
