A large group of former Alabama Crimson Tide players is seeking new NFL contracts. A few have already been done including the huge deal for Amari Cooper.

So far the biggest news in NFL contracts and former Alabama football players has been extensions to avoid players becoming free agents. Amari Cooper reportedly walked away from more money available from the Washington Redskins to remain a Dallas Cowboy. The payoff for Amari was a five-year, $100M extension.

Jarran Reed signed a two-year, $23M extension to stay with the Seattle Seahawks. A.J. McCarron gained a one-year contract to remain with the Texans for $4M. Before the current new deal frenzy hit, Eddie Jackson signed a five-year extension to remain with the Chicago Bears for $58.4M. During the NFL season, Julio Jones extended with the Atlanta Falcons for three years and a total of $66M.

The Tennessee Titans used a franchise tag in an attempt to keep Derrick Henry. The estimated contract value for Henry in the 2020 season is at least $10M. The Titans can still execute a multi-year contract with Henry if the parties agree to terms. The Arizona Cardinals have offered a transition tag to Kenyan Drake, with a one-year value of $8.5M. The transition tag means the Cardinals have a right of refusal to match any offer made by other teams.

Andre Smith will be returning for a 13th NFL season. He has a one-year deal for just over $1M with the Baltimore Ravens. More good news is Tony Brown continues to hang on in the league. His 2020 deal is with The Bengals for $750K.
