Alabama football is set to put on a show in 2020.
With the home of college football resting in the SEC, it would make sense that they have the best games of the college football year. That will be the case in 2020, and it will include Alabama football.
The Crimson Tide hosted the greatest college football game in 2019 when they faced off against the LSU Tigers. They will be looking for a different result in 2020 when they play against the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia will have the talent to compete for a national championship next season, but their hopes partially ride on this one game. With Florida on the rise and many players from last year’s team now in the NFL, the Bulldogs will have to solve some problems if they want to get a win in Tuscaloosa.
Both teams will be with a new starting quarterback in 2020. Jake Fromm was Georgia’s starter for three years, so finding an adequate replacement will be a major point of focus for UGA. Jamie Newman appears to be their starter, but they just landed JT Daniels as a transfer. If Daniels somehow gets his waiver, there is a chance that they will compete for the starting job.
The Crimson Tide will likely trot out Mac Jones as the starter against the Georgia Bulldogs, but Bryce Young will be given an opportunity to win the team over. In the last two meetings, the Tide have beaten the Bulldogs with their backup quarterback. Maybe Alabama football can go three for three.
There is no doubt in my mind that this will be the most exciting college football game of 2020. At the very least, it will be the most exciting game on Alabama’s schedule. The atmosphere will be electric. It will play a pivotal role in the SEC and national championship race. After this game, one of these teams will have no margin for error for the rest of the season.
Some games have lived up to this hype, but others have not. However, this game will have more hype leading up than any other game on the college football slate. With that much hype, the expectation has to be that this game will be 60 minutes of excitement. Maybe the Crimson Tide blow out Georgia in embarrassing fashion, but it is too early to predict that.
If Alabama wants to get back to the College Football Playoff, they almost definitely need to win this game. We’ll see if that happens in September.
