Alabama Football: Crimson Tide adds 4-Star speedster to ’21 commits
By Ronald Evans
Alabama football recruiting momentum continues, adding a commit from 4-Star, WR, Christian Leary.
Alabama football received its eighth verbal commitment in the 2021 class, adding 4-Star, WR, Christian Leary. Leary was reportedly close to announcing for the Crimson Tide a few weeks ago. Auburn interceded with a strong push. It was not enough to change Leary’s mind.
Based on the 247Sports Composite Rankings, the Crimson Tide now has the No. 22 list of verbal commits. Every team above the Crimson Tide has more commits. Sixteen of the 21 teams above the Tide have 12 or more commits. Adding Leary put the Tide commit list, one behind Auburn and five behind Georgia in the team rankings.
Alabama football already had two, Top 100 wide receiver commits in No. 38, Jacory Brooks and No. 74, Aglye Hall. Like Leary, Brooks and Hall are from Florida. Credit jeff Banks and Holman Wiggins whose hard work (along with Nick Saban) pulled in Leary.
What Leary has more than the other two wideouts is top-end speed. Based on 2019 times, Hall has a slightly better 40-time. Insiders believe both are faster than those now 16-month-old times. Leary is a bit like Jaylen Waddle in being able to stretch the field with no defensive back able to keep up.
Christian Leary had over 40 offers, including Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Miami, Ohio State, Penn State and Arizona State. The Bryce Young effect can be seen attracting these elite wide receivers. The Alabama football staff is not expected to finish with three in the 2021 class. At least one more will probably be added.
Commenting on Leary, Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports said,
"When talking about the top slot receiver prospect in the country, Christian Leary has to be one of the first names mentioned. The new Alabama commit is among the fastest and most explosive players in the country, a threat to score anytime he touches the football."
Charles Power, also from 247Sports said,
"The first thing about Christian Leary is just his speed. He’s certainly one of the fastest players in the country and he’s really continued to get faster."
By the time Leary gets to Tuscaloosa, it is possible he will be compared to the speed of Henry Ruggs III. Check out some video highlights below. And yes, he is playing some wildcat QB, as well as wide receiver.

Who is up next for the Crimson Tide? We continue to believe it might be Dallas Turner.
