Alabama football has a tough decision to make at quarterback.

Nick Saban is used to having a quarterback competition heading into an Alabama football season. He had to choose between A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims, Blake Sims and Jake Coker, and Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa. It always appears that Saban makes the right call. Crimson Tide fans are hoping to get a similar result out of the quarterback competition between Bryce Young and Mac Jones.

Mac Jones was in the same recruiting class as Tua Tagovailoa, so everyone knew that he would have to wait his turn to compete for a starting job. After filling in at QB after Tua’s injury, he appears to be in the driver’s seat for the 2020 season. However, his position is no lock.

Alabama football is certainly in a QB competition

Jones will be competing with Bryce Young, the top quarterback of the 2020 recruiting cycle. Young flashed his dual-threat capabilities at Mater Dei, and he is perceived to be the future for Alabama football. The only question is if the future will turn into the present at the beginning of this football season.

There is a lot to consider when determining a football team’s starting quarterback. You can’t just look at who is a better passer. Nick Saban and his offensive coaching staff will have to analyze talent, chemistry, team fit, experience, leadership, and a plethora of other variables before determining a winner. Let’s take a look ahead and see what the pros and cons of each option are. One article won’t give us an inside opinion on Nick Saban’s decision, but it can at least show some of the things that he is considering during the summer.
