Alabama basketball might have the best recruiting duo in the SEC.

When we talk about Alabama recruiting, most people assume that we are talking about the dozens of 5-star recruits that the football team has landed over the years. However, Alabama basketball has landed some major recruits of their own. This has been thanks to Nate Oats and Bryan Hodgson.

We thought the 2020 recruiting class was all wrapped up, but the Tide added a major recruit to the team in Alex Tchikou. He was expected to sign with the Crimson Tide when he reclassified, and he officially committed on July 5.

The Frenchman will be joining two Canadians in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide are traveling worldwide to find ways to improve this roster, and it has already paid dividends. The team has taken advantage of international players, college transfers, reclassified recruits, and traditional high school athletes. We will have to wait and see if the potential pans out on the court, but Alabama basketball has been on an absolute recruiting tear.

Bryan Hodgson has now been the lead recruiter on each of Alabama’s top five recruits of the 2020 class, and the Tide also landed Jordan Bruner as a transfer. It’s not just the recruits themselves that makes this class strong. They are also perfect fits. Nate Oats needs players who can spread the floor, attack in transition, and switch on defense. Alex Tchikou is just one of many Alabama basketball recruits that fits the bill.

What should we expect from Alabama basketball?

This is a big day for the Crimson Tide, but brighter days are ahead. Assuming that we get basketball this year, the Crimson Tide will be instant contenders to win the SEC. Adding John Petty back into the mix would make this team even tougher to handle. His versatility and leadership would be the straw that stirs this drink for Alabama basketball.

When Nate Oats took the job, roster turnover was bound to happen. He is now taking over a team of guys fit to play in his system. With veteran leadership, incoming talent, and athleticism at every position, the Crimson Tide are ready to take over the SEC. They will still be a football school, but the basketball program is certainly on the rise.
