Nick Saban has made a few mistakes at Alabama football.

Even when you have a dynasty as powerful as Alabama football, you make a few mistakes along the way. Nick Saban will be the first to admit that he isn’t perfect. He has publicly announced that one of his biggest regrets in life is leaving LSU for the NFL. On that note, what decisions at Alabama would Nick Saban regret?

In the grand scheme of things, I doubt that Saban would go back and change anything in particular. He is the most successful head coach of all time, and some of these decisions were still in championship seasons. However, Saban always learns from mistakes. I’m sure that some of these errors stay in the back of his head, even if they inevitably led to brighter days down the road.

3. Starting Cooper Bateman vs. Ole Miss in 2015

This decision led to a loss, but the Crimson Tide still won a national championship in 2015. However, the decision to start Cooper Bateman against the Rebels in 2015 led to some head scratches. Although Cooper Bateman had a fewer mistakes early in the year, Coker led to more success on the field and had seniority.

Bateman didn’t have many errors himself, but the offense was getting nowhere. They needed Coker’s ability to stretch the field to get back into this game. Even with Coker’s late-game heroics, it was too little too late for Alabama football.

Ole Miss seemed destined to win this game. Jake Coker starting might have not led to a victory. Heck, maybe the loss gave Alabama the motivation necessary to win the national championship in 2015. However, it took an insane lateral by Arkansas for the Crimson Tide to even get to the SEC Championship. Saban does not like control being out of his hands.
