Nick Saban’s biggest regrets with Alabama football

2. The 2013 Iron Bowl

The 2013 Iron Bowl had a lot of mistakes. It is one of the toughest games to watch as an Alabama football fan. We all remember the Kick 6, but there were plenty of other errors that led to the final second.

The game plan was simple. In fact, some would say it was too simple. Once Alabama had an early lead, they tried to drain the clock and get out of Auburn. However, they needed to keep their foot on the gas. Auburn kept fighting back into the game, and Alabama missed two field goals in the second half.

Alabama had the ball with four minutes on the clock in the red zone, and they somehow still lost this game. This loss led to Auburn winning the division, the SEC, and playing for a national championship. Alabama was definitely good enough to beat Florida State, but they never got to play in that game.

I’m sure that there are many regrets about this game. Should Kenyan Drake have gotten more touches? Should the offense have run through the veteran quarterback late in the game? Should the Tide have gone for a Hail Mary instead of a field goal in the final second? All of this is in hindsight, but there were a plethora of mistakes that happened before the Kick 6.
