Alabama Crimson Tide fans love naming pets after their team.

There are few better combinations than an Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday and a dog. They go together like Nick Saban and national championships.

When Tide fans get pets, they love to name them after their beloved Tide. Whether it’s after a coach, a favorite player, or anyone else, plenty of dogs and cats are named after Alabama figures. With that in mind, I decided to comprise a list of the 50 greatest dog names for Alabama Crimson Tide fans. There’s also a bonus name at the very end, so make sure you read all the way through. As a new dog owner myself, I did a lot of research for this topic.

The list will be split into multiple categories. You can find names related to Alabama football, Alabama basketball, other Crimson Tide sports, and the university and state as a whole. Without any further delay, let’s start with Alabama basketball names.

Best dog names for Alabama Crimson Tide fans: Basketball edition

1. Kira

Obviously named after the Tide’s last point guard, this is a great name for a few reasons. Crimson Tide fans will immediately know your dog’s namesake, but it also works as a subtle name.

2. Donta

Donta Hall would be a great namesake for Alabama basketball fans. Hall was a fan-favorite during his time in Tuscaloosa, and he is currently trying to make a name for himself with the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA bubble.

3. Jelly

This sounds like a bit of a ridiculous dog name, but it’s also the nickname of Jahvon Quinerly. JQ had to sit out this year due to NCAA rules, but he hopes to be the face of the Alabama Crimson Tide now that Kira Lewis is heading to the NBA.

4. Trevor

This is such a subtle name that most Tide fans won’t even realize it. Trevor Releford and Trevor Lacey were great basketball players before Avery Johnson took over the team. If you want your dog name to have a ‘Bama backstory without it being obvious, Trevor is the way to go.

5. Lawson

Lawson Schaffer is one of Alabama’s favorite graduates. This might be considered a deep-cut but he is worth naming your dog after.

6. Nate

Obviously, I had to put some version of Nate Oats on the list. You can go with Nate, Oats, or even maybe Oatsie. Nate is the simplest, though.

7. Coleman

You could also name your dog after Coleman Coliseum if you’d like.
