Alabama Football Recruiting: Breaking Alabama Lands Brockermeyer Twins
By Cody LaDue
Alabama football lands 5-Star and 4-Star Brockermeyer twins.
Alabama football has landed the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 1 center in the 2021 class. Tommy and James Brockermeyer announced their commitment to Alabama on Friday. With Kyle Flood leading the way in their recruitment, Flood did a wonderful job building a relationship and showing the direction to the NFL.
The biggest hurdle to winning over the twins was their legacy to the University of Texas. Their dad graduated from Texas and became a first-round pick for the NFL Draft. Their older brother Luke is currently a Texas Longhorn sophomore. Tommy and James had Texas, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU in their top four schools. But the battle was really between two schools, Texas and Alabama.
For quite a while Alabama has been trending for the brothers. They were hoped to be a package deal, but it was not assured. I feel what put Alabama football over Texas was two major factors. One being Alabama offered both the brothers and the second being the history of offensive lineman going to the NFL. Both the Brockermeyers have pointed to being developed and being able to get drafted as a big deal or deal-breaker in the choice of program. Texas’ last first-round offensive lineman was back in the 2002 NFL Draft. The Longhorns only added two 2nd-rounders since 2007. Alabama football is totally different. The Alabama Crimson Tide has put seven first-rounders with two in the second round since 2010.
With Tommy Brockermeyer, the Crimson Tide will be getting an elite offensive tackle. He plays the game physically and through the entire whistle. He finishes his blocks and shows very good pad level at the point of attack and through the play. He also has the frame to put on even more weight, Being around 290 he’s going to want to add at least fifteen more pounds to be around that ideal size for an SEC offensive tackle. Tommy did miss his junior season due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him.
With James, Alabama football will be bringing in a very high motor kid. He does quite well at getting to the second level of blocking when the play requires doing so. And like his older brother possesses a good frame that can add weight. James is going to have to put on more weight than his brother Tommy in order to deal with the grind of the SEC competition.
Alabama football landed a great duo that understands the work required to become champions and will not shy away from the tasks. Their dad is also their coach at All Saints Episcopal. He has helped in their development, with the sons knowing their dad has been through the process and has played at the highest of levels. With the addition of Tommy and James Brockermeyer, the Alabama Crimson Tide moved up to No. 6 in national team rankings, calculated by the 247Sports Composite.
A couple of days ago, Bama Hammer asked what team will win the 2021 class, chase for 5-Star recruits. In adding Tommy Brockermeyer, the Crimson Tide has three. More are expected.
July has been very good so far to Alabama and it could very well continue later this week and month.
