Alabama Football: Damien Harris should see increased role with Patriots
By Dakota Cox
Damien Harris should make Alabama football proud with the Patriots.
Damien Harris was an ambassador for the University of Alabama during his time as a student-athlete. He was a star on the field, a leader off of it, and a great representative for Alabama football in everything he did.
Harris went from the Alabama dynasty to the Patriots dynasty after being drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. New England’s offense will look a lot different without Tom Brady, and Damien Harris will be a part of the new-look offense.
Harris only had four carries as a rookie for the New England Patriots, but that was to be expected. No one gets a lot of reps as a rookie for Bill Belichick. With Sony Michel and James White in the running back room, there was no need for Damien Harris to get consistent carries. However, The Pats will be looking to get younger to build for the future.
Harris has a few more years on his rookie contract, so the Patriots need to use that time to determine his value. With the quarterback situation up in the air and the offense looking to rely heavily on the ground game, now will be a great time for Damien Harris to shine.
Harris won’t be the only Alabama football star to shine.
Damien Harris will see an increased role with the New England Patriots, but there will be other Alabama football running backs shining in the NFL. Josh Jacobs is hoping to have a healthy sophomore season. Despite the Raiders prioritizing receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft, Jacobs will be a huge asset for the offense. Derrick Henry will be doing his typical thing for the Titans after receiving a contract extension worth $50 million. Many believe that the Ravens will be transitioning from Mark Ingram to rookie J.K. Dobbins, but Ingram will still receive a large portion of carries this season.
Kenyan Drake will also receive a large portion of touches with the Arizona Cardinals. With the Cardinals trading away David Johnson, Drake is easily the starting back in Arizona.
These are just Tide players in starting roles. Running backs like Bo Scarborough and T.J. Yeldon will be looking to work their way into stable rotations. Nothing is promised, but Alabama football fans will be rooting for them this season.
The Crimson Tide have been RBU for quite some time now. Damien Harris will hope to be a part of the proud tradition of successful Tide backs in the NFL.
