Alabama football players should see a boost in their Heisman hopes.

The Heisman Trophy is the highest individual honor a college football player can receiver. With things changing in 2020, the SEC has a higher chance of earning it, and that includes Alabama football.

We aren’t sure exactly what Alabama’s 2020 schedule will look like. Even if the schedule is perfect, the Crimson Tide will face an absolute gauntlet. This makes their path to a championship harder, but it gives them more hopes to earn their Heisman moment.

Let’s look at Heisman hopefuls outside of the SEC and why they have a tougher path to New York.

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

Trevor Lawrence is certainly a Heisman hopeful. Many will say he’s the frontrunner. However, he’s going to have to stunt on every opponent in the ACC to have a chance. His only big game will be against Notre Dame. Clemson fans will hope that he can earn his Heisman moment in that game. If he struggles at all against any of the other cupcakes in the conference, watch out for him to lose his shot.

Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

Justin Fields is in a similar situation as Trevor Lawrence, but he at least has a better schedule. Playing Michigan earlier in the season won’t help him end on a high note, however. It will take utter dominance for the Fields to win the Stiffarm.

Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State

Hubbard has a chance to be a Heisman finalist, but it will be hard. Fans are huge supporters of him as a person, but the fact remains that he is a skill position player with practically no hopes of making the College Football Playoff.

We also likely won’t see the emergence of a Cinderella story outside of the SEC. With an unprecedented season, the stereotypes heading into the season will hold true more than they usually do.

So, who from the SEC will contend for the Heisman? Let’s take a look.
